Charami

Charami is the name I once, in the year of our lord 2009, chose for my website.
For the char part you’ll probably be able to guess its origin (Hint: my name is Charlotte), the ami part however will no longer be so easy to deduce. So let me take you back in time for a moment!

So it all started back in 2009, when I discovered amigurumi. Amigu-what? Amigurumi!
This is a Japanese word, contracted from 2 other words. The first word “ami” literally means knitting or crocheting, the second word “nuigurumi” means stuffed toy. Amigurumi are therefore knitted, but mostly, crocheted soft toys.
Discovering these cuties really made my hands itch and with a lot of trial and error, I taught myself how to crochet. When I finished my very first recognizable doll, I was so proud of it that I wanted to share it with the world. And how did you share something with the world at that time? Yes, through a blog. And to start a blog, I first needed a name. This one actually came to mind quite spontaneously: my name is Charlotte and I want to blog about amigurumi, so to keep it catchy that became CharAmi.

In its very first incarnation, charami became an English wordpress.com blog, followed by a charamiNL version, because I interacted more with Dutch-speaking followers and it seemed a bit crazy to keep writing in English. And finally, I decided to invest in my own domain, which is what this current blog is.

Meanwhile, charami is more than just a blog about amigurumi.
It’s still kind of a showcase blog, where I show what I’ve made, but I also share slice-of-life things and, lately, a lot about reading and books.
So yes, even though the name CharAmi has long ceased to be descriptive of what this blog is, it is mine and has been a regular part of my life for over a decade.

I wish you a lot of reading pleasure and thank you for visiting!

Cheers,
Charlotte
