Gingham blanket
Besides endlessly starting new crochet and knitting projects, I also sometimes finish something!
This project appeared once in an “on the go”, when I had just started it. A niece had shared the happy news of her pregnancy, which for me is always the signal to start working on the baby blanket as a maternity gift!
This time my eye fell on this multi-colored gingham blanket from Daisy Farms Craft. For the basic colours I followed the example and went with white and gray, but for the accent colours I chose my own colour palette of rust, mint green and teal.
The entire blanket is crocheted in one go, not as separate squares. So you crochet in rows where you change color every few stitches. You simply carry the other colour along, so that you don’t have to keep cutting and weaving in ends. Because of this, a little bit of the contrasting colour always peeks through in the squares and I was curious about that. I wondered how much this would stand out and whether it would be a nuisance or would create more unity.
And my personal verdict is the latter: yes, you often see the contrasting colour showing through in a square, but this enhances the gingham effect and creates a uniform and charming, if I may say so myself, whole!
The border I crocheted in teal in a very simple, not too flashy stitch. It only serves to give the blanket a finished look and to draw attention to the center gingham pattern.
This was a really fun blanket to crochet with a really pretty end result. And luckily the recipients thought so too!
Cheers,
Charlotte
