The Broken Binding Sci-Fi Sub #1: April-June-August 2024

It probably won’t come as news to you that I have serious FOMO about subscription services. So when The Broken Binding announced their bi-monthly Sci-Fi subscription in the same vein as their fantasy boxes, there was really no question about whether or not I would subscribe.

heir first series of books would begin in April and end in August, with three books in total. And for once, these books are not a series, but all standalone stories that cover the current oeuvre of one author: Andy Weir.

Everyone probably knows The Martian, if not from the book, then certainly from the movie with Matt Damon. Project Hail Mary is one of my favourite Sci-Fi books of all time. Only Artemis I hadn’t read yet when I took out the subscription, but this was recently checked off and approved!

In true TBB tradition, each book came in a fantastically well-packed box, with each book beautifully wrapped as a gift, with a special, matching sticker.

The dust jackets of each book were completely redesigned, each with a unique illustration, but in a coherent style. Very cool looking!

The hardcover of each book was printed with the same illustration as the cover, which, like the cover, continued on each side.
The endpapers then each got their own unique, but matching illustration, which was also used to decorate the book block.

Unlike the fantasy subscription, there is only one tier for this subscription, and this tier comes with a signature for every subscriber by default, if it is physically possible for the author to do so. Which was clearly the case for these editions!

I’m very happy and impressed yet again with TBB! Very beautifully made and thought out editions, that are both unique and homogeneous!
And this is probably a first, but I have already read and approved all three stories and highly recommend them to all lovers of or curious about the Sci-Fi genre!

Cheers,
Charlotte
