On the go #18: Derpy’s evolution
Pinterest is a bit of an addiction for me. It’s become a little morning ritual to scroll through the app while I sip my cup of coffee and collect ideas. Most of them sadly disappear into the depths of my mind soon after, but every now and then one lingers long enough to spark something new. And that’s pretty much how this whole Derpy project began, from the inspiration of the Cheshire Cat vest, and how it just keeps on evolving.
I was already a few rounds deep into my Derpy Poncho when I suddenly came across a pin from HanJan Crochet for her Granny Stitch Sweater. And that’s when it hit me, that I could actually turn my poncho into a proper hoodie! It seemed just as cosy, but a lot more practical to wear than a poncho.

That pin led me to a YouTube video where HanJan explains the techniques she uses for her jumper. While watching, I realised I had already applied a similar approach in my poncho to help the shoulders drape more nicely. So apparently, I was intuitively already on the right track!
At that point, I still wasn’t sure how to turn the poncho’s triangular shape into a closed side for a jumper, but I’m quite confident HanJan’s method will help me figure that out.
For now, I’m still busy crocheting my stripe pattern until I reach the right length. After that, I think I’ll abandon the poncho idea altogether and switch to a jumper, with a hood, of course.
Oh, and maybe I can actually still do something with that leopard belly idea by adding a pocket with that motif!
So yes, the Derpy Tiger project keeps growing and evolving.
To be continued!
Cheers,
Charlotte
