These days #34

Eep! Autumn has officially arrived, but I’d still like to take you back for a little look at those last weeks of summer – late August and September.
I already told you about my summer trips, but there were still plenty of other fun moments I don’t want to leave unmentioned.

Sleepovers & the fair

At the end of August, two of my nieces came to stay over for a few days. They’re not little kids anymore, so sleepovers look quite different these days. Less toys and crafts, more chatting, giggling, playing games, binge-watching TV, cooking and shopping together. Loved that quality time!

At the same time, my parents had their grandsons over – right when the city fair was in town. So of course, we all went: carousels, candy stalls and fishing for rubber duckies. A total cacophony (my head wasn’t too happy about it 😅), but the happy faces more than made up for it.

Birthday fun
Naturally, my birthday was celebrated too! First with a cozy family dinner at my place – busy, but oh so fun. And of course, the sweet handmade cards made an appearance again!

On my actual birthday, I took the day off (yes, I refuse to work on that day no matter how old I get, lol). I went to the seaside, where my brother and his family were staying. The weather was perfect, and for the first time in years I actually got in the sea again, to jump over the waves with my youngest godchild. In the evening, I rounded off the day with a dinner with friends. A birthday well spent!

Summer walks

The days were already getting shorter, but that meant gorgeous sunsets during my evening walks. During the day, I also enjoyed the outdoors, sometimes alone, sometimes with friends, and once during a sporty outing with colleagues.

Another seaside trip

A couple of weeks after my birthday, I went back to the coast, this time to visit my godmother who was staying there. The weather was quite different from my previous visit, with cooler temperatures and a biting wind.

Most of the day luckily stayed dry, except for one real downpour. But that one made up for itself by treating us to a huge rainbow.

A surprise in Bruges

Mid-September, we surprised a friend for her birthday with a day in Bruges. We started with an over-the-top brunch, followed by a few blissful hours in a beer spa, and ended the day with a delicious dinner. Apart from the moody weather, it was perfect!

Ayreon – An amazing flight through time!

In September, I also went to another Ayreon live show. This year marked 30 (!) years since the release of the debut album The Final Experiment, so that milestone was celebrated with a special performance, taking us through the entire discography, packed with songs that had never been played live before. Absolutely fantastic!

Autumn vibes

And now there’s no denying it anymore: autumn has arrived, and it’s time to start prepping the garden for winter. The pumpkin plants and pepper plant I got from a colleague each produced exactly one tiny fruit, but hey, a harvest is a harvest! I’ve been busy pruning, clearing pots, mowing the lawn, and covering or moving garden furniture. All the classic autumn chores.

And that’s how September came to a close. It was a busy month, but mostly a warm and beautiful ending to the summer. Now on to the coziness and cocooning that belong so perfectly to autumn!

Cheers,
Charlotte
