The Broken Binding Fantasy Sub #6: October 2024 – January 2025
In January I received another final book in a series via my Fantasy subscription from The Broken Binding. The fact that I have added yet another completely unread series to my bookshelves, I will completely ignore. Instead, I will focus solely on how beautiful they are!
What would become my sixth series in this subscription, was announced in August of last year: Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn by Tad Williams.
Tad Williams is an author whose name I have heard many times, but whose books I don’t really know. This series is apparently very legendary and has inspired several authors in the Epic Fantasy genre. That alone makes me very curious and the short description on Wikipedia only confirms that intrigue. This series would definitely not be skipped!
Although the series is a trilogy, The Broken Binding did announce that due to the size of the third book, that book would be split into two, as they could not print it as one. Therefore, the subscription for this series was extended over four months, instead of the usual three.
As usual, each book came gift wrapped with a matching bookmark.
When this series was originally announced, only the new cover design for the first book was shared, but it was more than enough to make me completely lust after the entire set. And look at those cover illustrations! BREATHTAKING!! @jeffbrown_graphics made some true works of art!
The hardcovers themselves look really cool too. Four different colours with the key element from the title of the book (or from the cover) embedded in gold or silver foil on the front. On the back, three different sword designs are highlighted. I assume these will play an important role in the story.
I also really like the font used for the titles!

The same sword designs as on the back of the hardcovers also appear in the sprayed edges of the book block.
Each endpaper of each book also comes with a unique illustration, so 8 pieces of art in total by two artists @marc.simonetti and @christophercantart.
Furthermore, my tier 1 set comes with the author’s signature in each book and each book is the 325th of 1500 to roll off the printer.
As previously mentioned, each book also came with its own bookmark. They reused the same colours as the hardcovers, but for some reason switched the colours of bookmarks 1 and 4 compared to their matching books.
I think this is a gorgeous set! The illustrations are really beautiful and I think everything fits together very well. So a success and certainly an asset to my bookcases!
Cheers,
Charlotte
